The Weekend Catch-Up – 08/07/2017
LET’S start close to home this week, as one of the biggest stories to emerge from Vogue House was incoming editor Edward Enninful’s new appointments. Naomi Campbell, Steve McQueen and Grace Coddington are set to join the masthead as contributors, while Kate Moss added to the line-up (making a move from her current position of contributing fashion editor).
Speaking of appointments, Lanvin is once again looking to make a creative director hire, following the news that existing creative director Bouchra Jarrar has left the label after showing two collections for the French fashion house. In other industry news, Condé Nast International chairman and CEO Jonathan Newhouse was given an honorary fellowship from Tel Aviv’s Shenkar College of Art, Design and Engineering; The Kooples announced that Emily Ratajkowski would be collaborating with them on a bag collection; Gucci CEO and chairman Marco Bizzari was awarded the Légion d’Honneur; Vetements and Tommy Hilfiger announced their collaboration; and Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri told us what luxury means to her at the opening of the maison’s spectacular exhibition, Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.
The opening of the retrospective proved to be a highlight of Couture Fashion Week, as did the arrival of the ready-to-wear contingent in the form of Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and Miu Miu, the inclusion of which was hailed as the tonic needed to inject a fresh energy into the hallowed event. Another highlight from couture came not from the catwalk, but from the FROW, as Celine Dion made her presence felt, supporting her many designer friends and stealing the street-style show in a series of headline-grabbing looks.
In celebrity style news, Kendall Jenner made a case for a step away from athleisure towards summer suiting; Kate Moss dazzled with a disco blazer; Cara put her own inimitable stamp on couture; and the Duchess of Cambridge surprised with a new hairstyle and bold polka-dots at Wimbledon.
On Miss Vogue, Brooklyn Beckham revealed the family values that have been instilled in him; Edie Campbell took us behind the scenes on her latest fashion shoot; Lucy Vincent was unveiled as our latest girl on a mission; and the lust list for a Pride makeover was published in kaleidoscopic style.
