Vogue's Guide To Occasion Wear
The words ‘occasion wear’ conjure up race-day-body-con, bizarre fascinators and wedge heels (for pigeon stepping across well-tended summer lawns). The search term returns 2,820,000 results on Google, because retailers mean business when it comes to outfitting us for far flung weddings, countryside birthdays, friend’s baby’s christenings and formal summer parties. (I also take issue with the word ‘formal’, because dressing in a way that rises to the occasion, showing that we’ve polished up and made an effort, no longer means prising yourself into an empire line dress and patent beige mid-heel courts). It’s 2017, and ‘event dressing’ has finally caught up with what we actually like to wear on a day-to-day basis. Here’s Vogue’s guide to mastering occasion wear without losing your style sanity.
